Development of our Helio Protection Program

Our offering has never ceased extending since we committed in providing safety to renewable powers. From now on Ferraz Shawmut can stand for 'Offering protection from solar cells up to the grid'.
When selecting the Helio Protection solutions, soalr PV OEMs and installers partner with a real specialist in DC protection. DC is what makes solar PV specific and its protection so tricky. Numerous PV installations are not compliant with the recent guidelines because is introduced as DC equipment is in fact pure AC with a DC label! The installers have to require 'True DC'. Only 'True DC' protections could fit to a so particular electric environment.

In this issue #5 of the Helio Protection Program brochure :
- new Surge Protective Devices for DC side, the patented TPMOV technology by Ferraz Shawmut provides our Surge-Trap with outstanding characteristics making the additional protection in series not a necessity;
- our AC protection box (line switch, SPD and differential circuit breaker) to be installed downstream the solar inverter;

Ferraz Shawmut is committed to protecting photovoltaic installations

Photovoltaics as power source is very booming. By 2020 installed capacity in solar power is expected to be near 300 GW. Generating electricity from this available energy source is an extremely reliable process – as long as it’s properly protected !

Any installation, whether it’s a stand-alone solar array with a back-up generator set or a grid-connected one, is vulnerable to fault currents or lightning. Today fuses and surge arresters are the most effective ways of protecting the wiring and all the electrical equipment in a PV system. But that protection must be designed, dimensioned, tested and adapted to the specific features of solar applications. At Ferraz Shawmut, the specialist in protection specially designed for power generation and distribution, we are showing our commitment to the development of solar power with a dedicated range of products: junction boxes, fuses and surge arresters. Fuses shield the cables between strings of modules from damage. The faulty circuits are isolated and the system can keep on generating power.
